NEW YEAR'S EVE IN ISOLATION ISN'T THE MOST IDEAL... BUT HERE ARE SOME KINDA COOL RECOMMENDATIONS TO GET YOU THROUGH IT
New Year's Eve is THE day to party. Regardless of whether or not you have work the next morning to make some sweet stat-pay, many people would risk churning stomachs and pounding headaches to pound the liquor back with friends and strangers. But this year is different. The 2020 COVID-19 pandemic forces us to stay isolated, keeping our company as small as possible. We wouldn't want another Halloween fiasco, after all.
Steve Pearson and Shaefer Carson of Kinda Cool Records are here to save the day. The record label executives, who have put out records by ATD, Rong and You Big Idiot thus far, compiled this list of things you can do inside during New Year's Eve. They may not be as cool as going out and partying with friends, but at least they're kinda cool, right?
1. WATCH 'CHECK IT OUT! WITH DR. STEVE BRULE'
There’s a lot of false information flying around out there these days, so if you’re going to trust anyone, it’s probably best to listen to a real doctor, right?
Dr. Steve Brule touches on many important issues and is our go-to for learning about anything from seafood to music.
He may not be the most well-spoken or decorated doctor, but his down to earth nature and unique style could be just what a real doctor might order.
Check it out!
2. NOT WORRYING ABOUT FINDING A SAFE RIDE HOME
The bane of New Year's Eve. How the hell are we getting home? Well, NOT THIS YEAR! While it would have been much easier than in years past with the arrival of ride-sharing apps, getting home from a New Year's party has always been the absolute worst. Waiting over an hour to even get through to a cab company, only for it to never show up? Even worse? It finally shows up, and someone from the neighbour's party runs out and beats you to it? SERENITY NOW!
3. PARTY IN FRONT OF A MIRROR
Wanna party with someone who thinks all of your ideas are great? Rearrange some furniture and get your favourite seat set up across from YOURSELF! Pass the time with intelligent conversation, sharing similar interests, and playing some fun drinking games like ‘shot for shot!’ If you’re lucky, you could still end up getting that midnight kiss after all!
4. BINGE WATCH 'THE OFFICE'
Did you know that The Office is being taken off Netflix on January 1st?! Crushing news for some. The Office has been our shared #1 show (along with Seinfeld) since it’s debut. We’ve both seen every episode a thousand times, and it’s the perfect comfort show to throw on in the background. I guess we’ll always have the gifs and memes to keep us going…
5. LISTEN TO SOME LOCAL PUNK ARTISTS
There are so many great punk bands in Vancouver. No matter what style of punk you might be into, you should be able to find several bands that play the style that you are looking for. With a simple search through social media and music streaming apps, you’ll surely find something you like. Too much work? Just head over to the KCR page and check out some bands we’ve had the privilege of working with! The best part about finding new local music is that once we can start going to shows again, you’ll be able to go see the new bands you’ve discovered because they’ll be playing right in your own backyard!
